Dear Friend,
On A Personal Note...
February is all heart... Not only is it the month of Valentine's Day, it is also American Heart Month; a time when national awareness is raised about heart disease, the number one killer of American women. This year's awareness campaign gives us all an opportunity to make a difference for the women we love and for future generations.
The Go Red Movement has created the "Red Dress Paper
Doll" Petition asking lawmakers to do their part to cure
heart disease and stroke by co-sponsoring the HEART for
Women Act. Each Paper Doll Petition received will strengthen
the symbolic chain of hope and put more pressure on Congress
to enact legislation that improves prevention, diagnosis
and treatment of heart disease and stroke in women.
The American Heart Association has made elevating your
voice as simple as logging onto HeartForWomen.org
and emailing your congressman. The HEART for Women act
allows you to take action for the women close to your
heart and makes you aware of how vital and big that heart
of yours is.
Women's health issues receive far less national research
funding, and the number one killer has been overlooked
for too long. We can all make a difference with just a
couple of clicks! Take care of yourself and TAKE ACTION!
Be Happy! Be Beautiful! Be Thrifty!

Tips
Opaque Tights - Double 'Em!
Opaque Tights remained a staple on both the spring and recent fall fashion show runways here in New York. As the demand has risen, so have the prices of these gam covers.
The trendy goal is to make the tights as opaque as possible so you are comfortable wearing shorter hemlines. I've discovered a thrifty way to create the dark fashionable look we all want without spending my luxury latte loot.
Instead of buying one pair of very opaque tights for $20 bucks, I buy two pair of "imperfect" tights and double them. You never see the imperfections when you double them and you get the look you want for less than half the price.
I find "imperfect" tights from HUE, Donna Karan, Via Spiga and Berkshire at outlets, Marshall's, TJMaxx & Ross bundled two pair for under $6 bucks. I love the look and added support of two pair and if they are too tight around the waist I simply cut the waist band 1" on both sides to release the binding elastic.
This is a trend we can all wear no matter your size, shape, or shade and getting
the look for less is just a matter of a little double
duty!

Spring and Fall Fashion Shows see the volume drop to the skirt!
For the past several seasons we have enjoyed kimono tops,
bell sleeves and blousy volume from the waist up... but the
poof is about to drop!
Full skirts with feminine flair and 50's fun are back and sure to make you feel happy you're a girl. Who can put on one of these fabulous skirts and not twist at the waist and pull the hem up like a flirty school girl.
This look is brought into balance with a waist defining top that skims the body and enhances the feminine silhouette. This look also means you need to make sure you have good bras that keep the girls off your waist.
Enjoy this season of girly fun! And when you twist in your full skirt think of me!

My New Year's Resolutions Involve . . .
WooHoo! 53% of you say that your New Year's resolutions involve better health and weight! I am going to make it my duty to offer little reminders and encouragement of those commitments every now and then.
I know that our hectic lives make it hard to choose the time-sapping rituals of exercise and healthier eating habits. Believe me I get it. After an 18 hour day of giving to everyone and everything else, you hardly want to deny yourself the pleasure of sitting instead of exercising and enjoying quick comfort food instead of making a healthy meal.
Quite often these choices can be made easier if you reposition your thinking. If you can stop and consider your exercise and healthy food choices as a way of nourishing and nurturing your body and spirit it doesn't seem like a punishment. Choosing to take care of yourself is a wonderful act of self love and you should not go a day without appreciating and loving your body.
A healthier you will surely be a happier you... which will lead to a more courageous and fashionable you! (See how I worked that in there – wink!). Believe it or not it all works together. When you take the time to value yourself, you build confidence which makes you comfortable with looking better. So though only 6% of you said that fashion was on your resolution short list, I know that 53% of you will come around to the fashion resolution as soon as you love yourself healthier! I believe in you!
Have You Tried...
Nic's Sticks by OPI
So imagine me standing in the cosmetic aisle pondering the $7 purchase of a nail polish pen that promises to be clump free and easy as pie to use. I picked one up; I put it down, up, down, up, down. The laughable thing is that I was with my friend and life coach Rhonda Britten who knows how monumentally thrifty I am, and watching decisive me struggle with a $7 nail polish purchase made her laugh out loud.
I had seen the ads for Nic's Sticks and I was very curious... but come on... $7 bucks for a pen that held half the polish of a bottle?! Rhonda convinced me it was research and we chose a pinky nude shade called CATCH YA LATER. I plopped down the dough for my cute paint pen and I tell ya, I just love it.
I remember this idea being introduced in the 80's, but the concept has been much improved by OPI. The polish is thin, dries quickly and is super easy to use. You simply shake, press the end to release the paint and brush it on like a marker.
You don't get a lot of polish in the pen, so I wouldn't use this all of the time. But for quick touch ups and polish jobs on the go, this will be hard to beat. I will definitely get a red color to match my spring/summer pedicure and keep it in my purse for quick chip fixes! Look for it in your local cosmetic aisle.
