Dear Friend,

On A Personal Note...
I hope you enjoyed a fun and safe July 4th!
I got many emails about my latest segment on LIVING LIVE with Florence
Henderson and Meshach Taylor. The segment featured essential packing
tips for an extended, fashionable weekend getaway; and with so many of
you planning little escapes, I thought I would offer up my favorite
packing tips and a travel friendly Accessory Suite to help make your
trip a bit more carefree.
Thanks for watching the show and I hope these packing strategies keep
you ready to go at a moments notice. Life's too short to put off a getaway!

Poll
I believe the best skirt length for me and my body shape is...
Well, the knees have it! I am so glad the majority of you agree that the best
skirt length is at or just below the knee. This length allows for the introduction
of the calf, which makes your legs look longer and more shapely. The longer your
skirt is, the shorter your legs look and often the more matronly your outfit will
look... this is not always the case, but a skirt cut to the knee is usually best.
Skirts hemmed to the knee have been the most flattering, appropriate length for
generations of women and is always the safest bet when contemplating proper
attire. If you are petite (under 5'5") you can get away with lengths just above
the knee, but no more than three or four fingers above the knee. Shorter styles
can be sexy and fabulous, but when "proper attire" is required, the four finger
rule is a good one to stick with.
If you have skirts hanging in your closet right now that hit you mid-calf or
longer, do a little experiment. Put one of them on and stand in front of a full
length mirror. Take a photo of your reflection with a digital camera. Now,
take a few safety pins and pin your longer skirt to the knee. Step back and take
another photo of the skirt pinned shorter. Now compare the two photos. Most of
you will quickly see that the skirt pinned to the knee is a much more flattering
option. So, now that you know better, go hem all those skirts and show off your
gams. Better looking legs are just a seam away!
***Note*** If you do not have shapely legs, skirts cut just below the fullest
part of the calf paired with a slim, high heeled shoe, will offer a leaner
looking, shapely leg!
Sixth Cents - MODERN JUMPER!
With an eye on autumn, the modern jumper makes a fun statement for Indian
summer. You are sure to see much more of these school girl throw backs come
fall, but they have been updated and are more fitted than the jumpers of old.
Jumpers for the coming season are knee length or shorter, offer more shape and
have more detail than the plaid frocks we sported in Catholic school. Jumpers
should be layered atop tees and tanks for summer and then added to crisp white
shirts and leggings or tights for the fall.
This simple uniform will have you looking smart in the coming weeks. Be sure to
keep your accessories simple, just like Sister Magdelina insisted. (wink!)

Tips - Packing for a Weekend Getaway

Summer is the perfect time to sneak off for a quick three day getaway and
packing light is essential to the fun and spontaneity of it all! Here are
some easy tips to keep you contained to one bag and ready for anything.
- Choose a color story (i.e. white/khaki, black/red, turquoise/brown, gray/yellow)
for all of your garments so everything will coordinate and you can pack fewer shoes and accessories!
- Fabrics should be wash and wear, wrinkle free options that can be hand-washed
with a little baby shampoo if need be.
- Every garment packed should serve a dual purpose or be able to be dressed up
and dressed down. For example a flirty skirt should function as a casual skirt
with a tank and flip flips for souvenir shopping and as a dressier dinner option
with heels and a sexy top. A colorful wrap should serve as a sarong for your
bathing suit at the beach, a night-time wrap for sun kissed shoulders or as a
blankie on the plane. Bermuda shorts should be worn with walking shoes and
tanks for sight seeing or strap-y heels and flirty top for a night out.
- Two pairs of shoes max... you should travel in a modern feminine walking shoe,
pack a strap-y heel for night and a sophisticated (non-rubber) flip-flop for
relaxing daytime activities.
- Pack hair accessories like a modern head band and/or scarf to maintain an
easy stylish look that will limit primp time and optimizing play time!
- Choose a refined tankini swimsuit, so that you can wear the top with coordinating
cropped pants or skirt.
- Choose strategic accessories that will dictate the mood of your outfit.
So, in a thrifty chic carry-on you should pack a:
- Skirt
- Bermuda Shorts
- One colorful tank top
- One flow-y, sexy top
- Tankini bathing suit
- Crushable sun hat
- Scarf/head-band
- Sophisticated flip-flop
- Strap-y heels
- Sparkly chandelier earrings
- Small clutch evening bag
- A thin nighty & rode
- Undies
- Zip-Out travel bag for beach/shopping/souvenirs
You should travel in:
- Cropped pants
- Tank top
- Light weight hoodie
- Modern feminine walking shoe
- Use a colorful wrap as a scarf/then blankie when needed
- Statement watch
- Hoop Earrings
- Sunglasses
These travel essentials will have you looking fabulous and ready for
anything over your three day getaway! HAVE FUN!!!
