On A Personal Note...

Have you noticed that the summer is just heating up and we are already faced with Back to School commercials! It seems that the Back to School sales are starting earlier and earlier... kinda like how Santa appears right after Halloween these days.

Though this reminder of shorter school breaks is annoying for the tikes, it is really quite great for us thrifty divas! Back to School sales are the perfect opportunity to stock up on all of our daily basics. So look in your closet and dig deep in your drawers. Is it time for new undies? How about sneakers or tees? Have all of your jeans seen better days?

Go through and weed out. If something looks like it's been dragged behind a truck for a few miles, for gosh sakes throw it away. The items that we use everyday are piled high and on sale all over town. So go get 'em while it's hot and they are cheap!

CREATING THE PERFECT BLOTCH-FREE SUNLESS TAN

Well, after weeks of using sunless tanners (MALIBU HEMP GOLGEN GLOW BRONZING MOISTURIZER is my fav - see Worth Every Cent), I think I have perfected the application process, so I wanted to share it with you. Surprisingly, the key to creating a fabulous sunless tan is VASELINE!

I have found that if you dab a little Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on your elbows, knees, feet and ankles, the active ingredients in the sunless tanner will not be obsorbed by the drier folds of skin found at our bend-y points. This prevents the dark patches that crop up after a few days use. I have read about using regular lotion on these areas, but Vaseline works much better. Try it. It works!

SALLY HANSEN'S SMILE BRIGHTENING LIP TREATMENT?

Okay, I know you must think I'm nuts for all things Sally Hansen - I do recommend several of their genius thrifty products - but every week when I'm out looking for new beauty magic down my cosmetic aisle, I'll be darned if Sally Hansen, hasn't come out with something deliciously enticing!

This lip "treatment" claims to brighten your smile and make your teeth look white... well who doesn't want that? So I tried it in two of the five colors offered (Radiant and Luminous). I didn't super love the stuff at first, it is a little thick and not as shiny as I usually like; but when you smile... HOLY HOOTIE, you can really see the difference!

The Smile Brightening Lip Treatment has specialized color pigments in every shade, counteracting yellow tones in teeth, making them look whiter. Optical Brightening Pearls, Borage and Cornflower Extract help create the effect. The shiny gloss glides on smooth, and contains Botanicals and Vitamins A, C, & E to soften and condition dry lips. And the pleasant vanilla mint flavor freshens breath!

The color "Luminous" is my favorite as it is a beautiful mauvy/nude that looks natural and makes your teeth pop! I have found that you can layer these glosses atop any lipstick and get the same whitening effect, so this has become my last step in creating a righteously pretty pucker!
