 On A Personal Note...
My radiators came on this week. It officially dipped below 50 degrees here in
New York City and my clankedy heat machines started churning in my 100 year old
apartment building (charming, but old!). That distinctive NY sound oddly
signals my internal need to go buy new hats, scarves and gloves! So I did!
I have not bought a new coat for years, opting instead to mix and match
inexpensive warm accessories to give my old coat a new look. I always choose
colorful options that will brighten cold winter days and put a spring in my
step as I head out into the oft frozen tundra of NYC.
This year I will be sporting a great wide leather belt atop my old coat, and a
fabulous felt hat. Hats have never been more popular and winter is the perfect
time to stretch your style muscles and sport a chapeaux! You would be amazed at
how these small additions make my coat seem new and create a modern winter
look.

 Tips - Pilling Sweaters
I have gotten many ASK ANDY questions about sweater pilling; what is it and how
do you prevent it? So I thought I would address it as we all start to break out
our knitted favorites for the season.
Fabric pilling is caused by threads pulling away from the body of your garment
and is most common in loosely knit fabric. Tight, compactly constructed fabrics
do not usually pill. The easiest way to prevent pilling is to hand wash your
knits and lay them flat to dry. Fabric abrasion that occurs in the washer and
dryer agitates the weave of your knits and increases the likelihood of pilling.
If hand washing is not an option, load the washer loosely for more circulation
and minimal abrasion on the garment and launder it inside out. Use a shorter
wash time when possible and use a fabric softener to reduce static and prevent
lint from clinging to the garment.
 If you still have trouble with sweater pilling,
the best product that I found to remove it is the original SWEATER STONE. The
Sweater Stone is like a pumice stone (which can also be use in a pinch) for
fabric. You gently rub the stone over your sweater and the pills release easily
and effectively making the garment really look like new.
